Northern Maine Julep

Created for the 2011 Kentucky Derby weekend. The best thing with really great neutral vodka is that you can technically substitute it into any cocktail imaginable. But the traditional Mint Julep’s simple mint-sugar-bourbon doesn’t leave much room for substitution without a little supplement. Swap the plain old sugar for some rich turbinado (Sugar in the Raw) and add a dash of mint bitters to truly round out this variation on a classic cocktail. Crazy hat garnish optional.

Recipe Text:

  • In a julep cup (silver or otherwise)
  • Gently muddle 2-3 fresh mint leaves with 1 teaspoon of Turbinado Sugar
  • Add 1 dash of Fee Brothers Mint Bitters
  • Fill Cup with freshly crushed ice
  • Add 2 oz Twenty 2 Vodka
  • Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint

Naughty Leprechaun (Bomb)

Released a little early so you can adequately prepare for St. Patrick’s Day Twenty 12. Who says you can’t work true micro distilled vodka into a balanced celebration lineup? Meet the Naughty Leprechaun. Best enjoyed with a group. ;-)

Recipe Text:

  • In a shot glass, combine:
  • 1 oz Twenty 2 Vodka
  • 1 oz Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
  • Slowly fill a pint glass 1/2 way with Guinness
  • Drop the shot glass into the pint glass
  • Consume quickly, and with a group of friends

Through the Looking Glass

Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, along with recipe #55 Down the Rabbit Hole. Just ice and true micro distilled vodka, stirred well to chill. Stirring (as opposed to shaking) will keep this drink silky smooth and very reflective. Serve in a sakazuki (a saucer-like cup, traditionally used for sipping sake), though a shallow bowl will work just fine too…and give yourself a wink as you sip :) FMI on sakazukis, check out: http://www.imperialjapansakecups.com/aboutus.html

Recipe Text:

  • In a pint glass filled with fresh ice, add:
  • 2 oz Twenty 2 Vodka
  • Stir well to chill. Do Not Shake. Stirring will keep the texture silky smooth.
  • Strain into a sakazuki ( a saucer-like cup traditionally used for sipping sake)
  • Garnish with a wink to your reflection

Twenty 2 Below Spiced Wassail

A party approved recipe sent to us by our good friends @ Pub McQ. This tasty beverage is easy to prepare and even easier to serve a thirsty crowd with little hassle from the host. Mix and simmer in an an average Crock Pot (~5 quarts) before the guests arrive to develop all of those delicious spices and essential oils into the cider. Leave the alcohol out of the slow cooker, so guests of all ages can enjoy the warm spicy cider. When it’s time to mix for an adult, a 1 part True Micro Distilled Vodka to 4 parts wassail is a good place to start, though the final ratio is up to you. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and cozy fireplace.

Recipe Text:

  • In a crock pot, combine:
  • 1 Gallon Local Apple Cider
  • 2 oz Honey
  • 2 Oranges (sliced on the thin side)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Simmer for 30 minutes, leave the heat on for serving
  • In a heat proof mug, combine:
  •  1 oz Twenty 2 Vodka
  • 4 oz Warm Wassail
  • Garnish with a cinnamon stick

Spooky Pumpkin Spice Punch

This week’s recipe is a Punch-style setup for no hassle mass serving. Inspired by recipe #41, Substitution Punch, our Spooky Pumpkin Spice Punch get’s its pumpkin flavor from Brand X Pumpkin Spice Schnapps, you can opt to go fresh if you are in for baking down a pumpkin, but I have to say the schnapps offers a quick alternative with tasty results. Finish off the punch with a float of vanilla ice cream (instead of sherbet) in the center that will slowly melt into a deliciously sweet adult punch. And if you have access to dry ice near you, definitely throw some in, 10lbs (added gradually) should last all night.

Recipe Text:

  • In a party size punch bowl (larger than 1 1/2 gallons), combine:
  • 2 bottles of Twenty 2 Vodka
  • 1/2 a bottle of Pumpkin Spice Schnapps
  • 2 Liters of Ginger Ale
  • 32 oz of Local Apple Cider
  • 12 1/2 oz float of vanilla ice cream
  • Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon, ginger, and cloves
  • Time to serve: Ladle into your 5oz cup of choice
